MANADO, THE CAPITAL CITY OF NORTH SULAWESI PROVINCE

Manado is the capital city of the North Sulawesi Province , located at the Bay of Manado, and is surrounded by a mountainous area. The municipality of Manado is divided into nine districts: Malalayang, Sario, Wanea, Wenang, Tikala, Singkil, Tuminting and Mapanget.



As you landed at Sam Ratulangi Air Port, Mount Klabat(1995 m) was the first who greet the attendants, it was the highest mountain in North Sulawesi as you could see in the picture above, Try walking up at night during a full moon and staying overnight to watch the sunrise. On Sundays and holidays Mt. Klabat. bustles with the activity of students and hikers.it is needed a 5-6 hours climb beginning near the Police Station in Airmadidi.

Manado town center was 30 km aways from Sam Ratulangi Air Port, we could say that it was a never sleep city, the peoples activities not only on the day, but the life was going on until the dawn.
Manado was a beach front city, the main atraction was Manado Boulevard, it was Manado mainthoroughfare which was stretched along Manado Beach line, there are shopping malls, restaurants, cafe and music lounge and some historical site worth a visit, like World War Second Memorial, a memorial to commemorate the destruction of Manado which was heavily bombed and to honor the victims of World War II. It is located in the center of Manado next to Gereja Sentrum (City Center Church).

The North Sulawesi Province is located in the northern edge of Eastern Indonesia is geographically situated between 0.30-4.40° north latitude and 123.0-127.00° east longitude. The total area of the province is 15,272.44 km2 with most of the area as low hills at 0 (zero) to 2,000 meters above the sea level.

North Sulawesi has a typical equatorial climate with two seasons: summer wet and summer dry. The wet season lasts from about November to March, and the dry season April to October. The total number of rain days is 90-130 days with approximately 3.000 mm average annual rainfall. The average temperature is 26 to 30 Celsius with the average humidity being 80%.


North Sulawesi consist of 4 cities they are, Manado, Tomohon, Bitung, and Kotamobagu, divided into some districts: Minahasa, Minahasa utara, Minahasa Selatan, Minahasa Tenggara, Bolaang Mongondow, Bolaang Mongondow Utara, Sangihe, Talaud and Sitaro.
North Sulawesi could be reach by air from Jakarta with a stop over at Ujujng Pandang-South Sulawesi (2 hours + 1 hour), or it could be reach directly from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia ( 4 hours). Sam Ratulangi International Airport of Manado is one of the main entry ports to Indonesia. A taxi from the airport to central Manado takes about 30 minutes and costs about Rp. 70,000 (bargaining). Departure tax from Manado is Rp.100.000 for international flights and Rp. 30,000 for domestic flights. The terminal has an Internet cafe in the public area and the standard array of restaurants.

The purpose is to promote a better understanding on the role of the ocean towards a global climate change and to identify a practical measures to harness global cooperation and feed the mass media to promote a public awareness of this initiative
GOALS : The World Ocean Conference (WOC) 2009 is a forum for the world community to discuss current issues in the marine field which are related to a climate change, and how the world wisely utilize the ocean to weather crisis. Furthermore, WOC 2009 is expected to create a more aligned global vision and commitments from participating governments and institutions to work together to improve marine resources management.

Here still stands the original “Hevea Braziliensis” rubber tree brought from Brazil around the middle of the 19^th century, and the world’s largest flower “Rafflesia” which is named after the British colonial administrator Sir Thomas Raffles who died in 1826.

The Bogor Presidential Palace was built by the Dutch Governor General in 1745 originally and restored in 1832, it lied inside the Botanical Garden area.

Bogor is easy to reach from Jakarta, just take a train from Kota train station or from Gambir, it takes about an hour, then from Bogor train station to Bogor Botanical Garden or to President Palace, it was just 15 minutes walking distance to the east.

Here still stands the original “Hevea Braziliensis” rubber tree brought from Brazil around the middle of the 19th century, and the world’s largest flower “Rafflesia” which is named after the British colonial administrator Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles who died in 1826.

In front of Bogor President Palace one could see some flocks of white spotted deer which roaming from one corner to another, those animals look cute and we could even touch the deer and could feeding them with a carrot or other vegetables
